The Future of Libraries – Is It Safe?
When we look back at the earlier times, people used to own their own libraries that were considered as a symbol of status. For people who like to read, libraries are the place where they get enjoyment and inspiration. For many, libraries are the main source to gain information but for those who have a reading habit; it is a place of pleasure. So what is the importance of libraries and what will be their future as we see them today?
Libraries definitely do carry a future but may be in a different form; digital form it might be. When we look at the hobby of reading, it is surely not old-fashioned and more people are into reading since internet came in their lives. There are still several people who would like to have books in their hands, instead of reading something on the screen, they like turning pages. Libraries in the future will surely have a changed look so the information it carries should meet the interests of certain groups of people; it needs careful planning for that.
The libraries in schools should be made highly attractive so the students would actually desire to spend more time in them. They can be turned into E-Libraries may be and an excellent architect can be hired to get them reconstructed. You can add in some especial qualities or value added stuff in them in order to bring in more people or students for acquiring reading material and other information. It does not really matter whether you make libraries digital or simple; it should cater to the needs and interests of today’s younger generation who like to go online more compared to books.
This idea or concept should not be kept limited towards only schools, other educations places should also think about modifying their libraries; digital libraries having a mixture of IT program and books would work simply great. This is the job that librarians should think about and introduce more programs so students and people can access the digital and virtual world more easily. People would never stop reading stuff but the presentation of its format would get modified a little. If libraries can offer digital programs, people would love coming back to do what they do but in a digitalized form. Libraries should offer packages that can have a combination of information, watching DVDs, movies, etc to fulfill everyone’s needs.
